Hashtag #MYBAGA. Any student of film knows that in order to enjoy most theatrical films, one must “suspend their disbelief”. Essentially, a sacrifice of reason and logic for the sake of enjoyment. As we have so recently ended a very contentious Presidential election, I’ll ask you to suspend your bias in order to enjoy the point of this post. Start here…
One of the great successes of Ronald Reagan was his ability to convince America that her best days were ahead of her. After a few years of dealing with terrorism and extremely weak leadership under President Carter, the country was demoralized and exhausted. Reagan, arguably, was a breath of fresh air.
This is the part where I have to remind you that you’re still suspending your bias. For the past eight years, America has had a somewhat similar geopolitical environment and leadership- Particularly with regard to our relationship with Iran. The media has done a great job of convincing half of America that Donald Trump is going to blow up the planet, grope every female he sees, and turn back the clock completely on human rights and foreign relations. The other half of America has a new optimism… and for them, America’s best days are ahead of her.
The central theme of Donald Trump’s campaign is “America First” was articulated through a simple hashtag, #MAGA, which stands for “Make America Great Again”. The language expresses a clear direction and sense of purpose. Everyone in the country now has a mission- make America great again. Perhaps only half of the population will be committed, and the other half want to see that mission (and Trump) fail.
At this point, you can stop suspending your bias, because it concerns you and your capabilities. The new campaign, mission, direction is #MYBAGA, or “Make Your Bank Account Great Again”. I think this is a campaign everyone can get behind. Hopefully, in the same manner, this directive will remain top of mind and you’ll be focused on it to the point where you think about it throughout the day as an actual mission. There’s a power in language that most don’t recognize, but certainly the political manipulators have latched on to it. This is your mission- make your bank account great again.
