Resolution
res·o·lu·tion: (rezəˈlo͞oSH(ə)n) / noun a firm decision to do or not to do something.
Are you part of the 41% of Americans that made a New Year’s Resolution this year? How’s that resolution coming along? I hope you are standing firm in your decision to move your life forward! However, if you’re like most people, you may have lost a bit of that steam that you had on January 1st. Perhaps you’ve fallen back into some bad habits or have been derailed by unforeseen life events. Whatever the reason, you have the power to get yourself back on track at any moment. You just have to make that decision and move forward with a plan.
In the video below, “New Year, New You,” Tony Robbins gives some valuable advice on how to regain your momentum and move forward. He talks about how you need: a vistion for what your want, strong reasons to keep you going when the going gets tough, and a habit of reviewing and feeling your vision every day.
Toward the end of the video he gives you a specific plan for improving an area of your life.
- Select an area of your life you would like to improve and describe what that are is like currently. Be specific!
- Write down the rituals that have shaped your current conditions in this area. (It’s usually not one thing, but several little things.) Be honest!
- Write down what you want. What’s your compelling vision? Be specific!
- Write down the rituals that will get you your compelling vision. What would you need to do differently each day to get what you want?
As Tony says, you’re going to experience pain. It’s your choice whether to experience the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The pain of discipline weighs ounces. The weight of regret weighs tons.
